ORDER INSTRUCTIONS

This item is sold by the metre, NOT by the length or piece

Step 1: Work out the total number of metres you require and round up to the nearest metre. This is the number you enter into the quantity field.
For example: If you need a 2.1m length & a 3.7m length, that equals 5.8m, which rounds up to 6m. The number 6 is what you would enter into the quantity field.

Step 2: The "Longest Length" drop down box is only used to help calculate freight. Parcels "under 3m" are considerably cheaper to freight than parcels "3.1m or over". Choose the option that best matches what the longest length of handrail/dowel you require. The actual lengths can be entered during the checkout process.

Step 3: Tick the "I have read the Order Instructions" box

Description

Where would you normally use timber handrails ?
As a handrail, either attached to the wall or as part of the balustrade on a staircase.

What is it made out of ?
Plantation grown Meranti (aka Durian or Pacific Maple).
The dowel is actually made up of 2 pieces of timber that have been laminated together.
The reason why this is done is because Meranti is not available in sizes greater than 50mm.
For us to finish 50mm in diameter we need to start with material that is 4 to 5mm thicker, which means that the only way we can achieve that is to glue 2 pieces together.
The glues we use are suitable for interior application only. If you wish to use our timber dowel for exterior application, then we suggest you use our 43mm Dowel range or below.
It is relatively clear and free of defects, but a small amounts of gum vein, surface checking (splits), tight knots and black specks are acceptable within the SELECT grading rules.
These defects give the timber its character, and will not be considered in the case of a refund being requested.

What are the important dimensions?
Overall : 50mm Diameter x Various Lengths
Maximum length available is approximately 4.8 metres (subject to availability).

How should you finish it ?
If looking for a natural finish, then a clear lacquer will be fine; or you can use a stain to achieve your desired colour then use a clear lacquer to finish it off.
