Where would you normally use treated timber fence post caps?
On top of a 112 x 112mm fence post to dress it up.

What is it made out of?
Plantation grown fingerjointed Radiata Pine that has been H3 treated (suitable for above ground use).

How should you finish it?
Due to the way this product is manufactured, the top of this capital has exposed timber end grain, which can be susceptible to cracking. This can occur quickly when installed in an exterior (outside) application without proper finishing.

Therefore, we recommend painting the capital PRIOR to installation. A good primer/undercoat is highly recommended, followed by 2 to 3 coats of paint. Leaving the cap unfinished, oiling it, or finishing it with clear lacquer is NOT recommended.

Some cracking may still occur after painting, as the timber acclimatises to its new environment, and should be monitored. If cracking does occur, simply fill any cracks with a suitable exterior filler and repaint the surface.

Over time, cracking should become less of an issue. However, due to the exposed end grain, the product will require more maintenance than other parts of the timber fence.
