Back in the 1980's we were asked by a manufacturer of wooden jigsaw puzzles as to whether we could produce a small wooden handle/knob that they would use to fit to timber letters and numbers on childrens jigsaw puzzles.

Measuring only 7mm in diameter, these delicate turned handles are produced on a very specialised piece of machinery that spits out multiple items at a time from a piece of dowel that is fed into the machine.

This piece of woodworking equipment is unique in its operation, as it uses a grinding wheel that has the shape of the turning cut out of it, and then water rushes over the timber dowel to remove the waste. The end product is dried before being packed away ready to be shipped.
