As a wood turner, you can't get a much simpler request from a customer than when you are asked to produce a tapered plug. Over the years we have done hundreds of different plugs in various lengths, diameters and degrees of taper.

One shape that we have been doing for many years is sold to the local water company, and is used by their contractors when out on site to block leaking pipes.

Via the use of a mallet, the plugs are bashed into the end of the pipe, and serve a short term benefit of stopping water flowing before a longer term solution can be found.
