Where would you normally use these timber stair treads ?
A tread (or step) is what you stand on when climbing a staircase.
What is it made out of ?
Plantation grown Merbau (also known as Kwila).
The grade of timber that we use is referred to as SELECT grade, and is the highest quality available on the market. It is predominantly clear and free of defects, but a small amount of gum vein, tight knots and black specks are acceptable within the SELECT grading rules.
These treads are produced from a Durability 1 timber, which makes them perfect for use outside the home. They are also rated to BAL29, which mean they can be used in bush fire zones.
How should you finish it ?
If looking for a natural finish, then a clear exterior grade oil will be fine.
Speak to your local paint retailer for more info.
