Description

Where would you normally use Stainless Wire Balustrade Kit XH?
For 3.2mm cable balustrading between timber posts. (Not suitable for metal posts)
This kit can be used for horizontal balustrades. (Not suitable for angled balustrades).

What parts make up the kit?
1 x SSW076-6 (M6 Swageless Terminal Right Hand Thread)
1 x SSW077-6 (M6 Terminal Left Hand Thread)
1 x SSW047-6 (M6 Threaded Insert Right)
1 x SSW048-6 (M6 Threaded Insert Left)

What are the fittings made out of?
316 Stainless Steel, which means they can be used both in external and internal applications.

How do I fasten the cable to the fittings?
The 3.2mm (1x19 or 7x7) wire cable goes into the open end of each fitting. The unique swageless mechanism on the end of the fitting is screwed on until it can't be tightened anymore which results in the wire being securely held in place.
The wire can only be removed with the use of the release key (SSW074-6).

Which wire cable rope is best suited?
The fittings will work only with 3.2mm stainless wire cable rope.
1 x 19 configuration for the cable is the best fit, but 7 x 7 and 7 x 19 will also work.

Which tools do I need?
No crimping/swaging tools are required for this kit.
Other tools that might be handy to complete the job are IF122X (Wire Cutter), IF133X (Spanner Tensioner) and IF114X (Coach Screw Drive Bit).

Cleaning & Maintenance

Without regular cleaning and maintenance discolouration of the surface of the stainless steel by corrosion (tea staining) can occur.

How to reduce the risk of tea staining

  • Absence of corrosives – especially salt, chlorine, cleaning acids etc.
  • Atmospheric Conditions – lower temperatures and low humidity are better.
  • Surface orientation – Open exposure to rain washing is better
  • Surface Finish – In general a smoother finish is better. where practical mirror polish finish may perform better than a brushed finish.
  • Chemical cleanliness or passivation of the surface improves corrosion resistance
  • Appropriate grade selection for conditions
  • Regular Maintenance to limit the accumulation of corrosives

Stainless steel cleaning schedule

The frequency of cleaning will vary depending on environmental factors i.e. proximity to the ocean, atmospheric and urban conditions. Below is intended as a guide and should be varied as required. We recommend using peek stainless steel polish for maintenance.

Environment Distance from Coastline Cleaning Schedule
Clean inland environment 20km + Every 10 - 12 Months
Moderate urban or coastal environment 1-5km Every 4 - 6 Months
Harsh urban or coastal environment < 500m Every 2 - 3 Months
Severe coastal/ marine environment < 500m Every 1 - 2 Weeks
