Where would you normally use Stainless Wire Balustrade Kit J ? For hydraulically swaged 3.2mm cable balustrading between metal posts. (Not suitable for timber posts) This kit can be used for horizontal balustrade. (Not suitable for angled balustrade).
What parts make up the kit ? 1 x SSW056-6 (M6 Terminal Right Hand Thread) 1 x SSW070-6 (M6 Terminal Left Hand Thread) 1 x IF127X (Rivet Nut Right Hand Thread) 1 x IF138X (Rivet Nut Left Hand Thread)
What are the fittings made out of ? 316 Stainless Steel, which means they can be used both in external and internal application.
Which wire cable rope is best suited ? The fittings will work only with 3.2mm stainless wire cable rope. 1 x 19 configuration for the cable is the best fit, but 7 x 7 and 7 x 19 will also work.
Which tools do I need ? The SSW056-6 (M6 Terminal Right Hand Thread) and SSW070-6 (M6 Terminal Left Hand Thread) require the use of the IF120X (Hydraulic Swager) to fasten the fitting to the wire. Other tools that will be handy to complete the job are IF122X (Wire Cutter), IF124X (Rivet Nut Inserter) and two of the IF133X (Spanner Tensioner).
Do you have any instructions on how to install the kit ? We sure do. Click on this link to download a PDF.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Without regular cleaning and maintenance discolouration of the surface of the stainless steel by corrosion (tea staining) can occur.
How to reduce the risk of tea staining
Absence of corrosives – especially salt, chlorine, cleaning acids etc.
Atmospheric Conditions – lower temperatures and low humidity are better.
Surface orientation – Open exposure to rain washing is better
Surface Finish – In general a smoother finish is better. where practical mirror polish finish may perform better than a brushed finish.
Chemical cleanliness or passivation of the surface improves corrosion resistance
Appropriate grade selection for conditions
Regular Maintenance to limit the accumulation of corrosives
Stainless steel cleaning schedule
The frequency of cleaning will vary depending on environmental factors i.e. proximity to the ocean, atmospheric and urban conditions. Below is intended as a guide and should be varied as required. We recommend using peek stainless steel polish for maintenance.
