What Handrail Brackets Suit My Handrail?
What Handrail Brackets Suit My Handrail?
Though admittedly not the first thought that comes to mind when needing to build some handrailing, handrail brackets are arguably as important aesthetically as they are functionally when it comes to installing a handrail.
Choosing the handrail bracket that suits your handrail can be a tricky task if you are unsure what you are looking for. With a wide range of handrail profiles and handrail brackets, we hope we can shed some light on this area.
Does My Handrail Require a Handrail Bracket?
A handrail bracket is commonly used in the scenario in which you are wishing to mount a length of handrailing directly to a wall. This is typically the case with enclosed staircases and tighter spaces where handrailing needs to be closer to the wall. Therefore, if you are mounting a handrail to a wall directly, it will require a handrail bracket.
There are styles of handrailing that do not require handrail brackets such as free-standing handrailing on the top of posts, or handrailing being run along a Hamptons style staircase with timber or metal balusters supporting the rail from post to post.
What Style of Handrail Bracket Do I Need?
Flat Bottom
If you have a handrail with a flat bottom finish, then you would be requiring a handrail bracket which uses a cradle to support the flat bottom. These brackets can obviously can have the flat cradle design, however, a handful of our curved brackets have cradles shallow enough to actually also be used on a flat bottom handrail.
Curved Bottom
For handrailing that has a curved mounting surface (i.e. dowel) then you would require a curved cradle handrail bracket. Unlike the flat bottom handrail which can also be used with a shallow curved handrail bracket cradle, the curved handrailing can only be used with the appropriate curved cradle.
