    Turning a product round is something that any wood turner can do, but turning a product into an oval shape is a much bigger challenge.

    This was the task presented to us by one of our customers. They were looking for someone who could not only make a tapered timber plug, but more specifically one that was oval in shape.

    Prestige Newel Posts For Stairs

    A number of years ago we did a trip to the USA to go and see a trade show that promoted products to the building industry.

    A number of stair builders exhibited at this show; and one of the products that caught our attention was the use of large square posts on stairs. These posts were characterised by not being turned, and were also much larger than the 90 x 90mm sizes that were being used here in Australia.

    We have produced a lot of turned timber balusters over the years, with most of them being made out of Pine, Oak or Meranti.

    Occasionally you get a request to make a baluster out of a different timber; which was the case in the photos below of a job that we did for a local hotel upgrade here in Adelaide.

    Newel Post Caps For Stairs In Australian Timber

    We have been manufacturing a range of newel post caps for stairs for a number of years now. Originally they were available in only Pine or Victorian Ash; but after receiving a number of requests, we now manufacture them in a large range of Australian timbers; such as Jarrah, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt and Sydney Blue Gum.
