FAQs

What is Accoya?
Accoya is sustainably sourced Radiata Pine modified through a non-toxic process called acetylation, making it exceptionally durable and dimensionally stable for outdoor use. Think of it as Radiata Pine that’s been “pickled”!

How long does Accoya last?
Accoya comes with a 50-year warranty for above-ground use and a 25-year warranty for in-ground or freshwater applications. It is also certified for use in termite zones and is significantly more resistant to termites than untreated pine.

Does Accoya need to be finished or oiled?
No. Accoya can be installed unfinished and left to naturally weather, making it a particularly low-maintenance outdoor timber. It can also be stained or coated if you want a particular colour, although coated timber will require ongoing maintenance.

What is Accoya used for?
Accoya is commonly used for cladding, decking, doors and window mouldings, pergolas, outdoor structures and furniture. At Hammersmith, we currently offer Accoya primarily as outdoor cladding, with other profiles and products available on request.

Why choose Accoya over hardwood?
While Accoya has a premium upfront price, its exceptional durability and low maintenance can make it a worthwhile long-term investment. It is particularly useful for applications such as cladding where regular access for oiling or recoating can be difficult.
