Heritage Handrail - Right Volute (American Oak)

The overall width of the volute is 260mm.
The arm of the volute is pitched at 37 degrees, which is an angle that most staircases are built at.

Where would you normally use the timber handrail volute (or scroll)?
As a decorative way of terminating the handrail at the bottom of a staircase. Combined with a bullnose tread, a volute (aka scroll) will give any staircase that look of grandeur.

How do I know whether I need a left hand or right hand one?
Standing at the bottom of a staircase and looking up the stair, a left hand volute is on your left side, and a right hand volute is on your right.

What is it made out of?
Sustainably sourced American Oak.
The grade of timber that we use is referred to as SELECT, and is the highest quality available.
It is predominantly clear and free of defects, but a small amount of gum vein, tight knots and black specks are acceptable within the SELECT grading rules.

How do you fix the volute to the handrail, and how do you join the two pieces together?
The volute is supplied in two separate sections. To assemble, apply wood glue at the join and secure it using either a Zipbolt ST-Maxi UT or a Zipbolt UT Rail Bolt. Once fixed, lightly sand the join to create a smooth finish.
You can then attach the completed volute to the handrail using the same method.

How should you finish it?
If looking for a natural finish, then a clear lacquer will be fine; or you can use a stain to achieve your desired colour then use a clear lacquer to finish it off.
