Description
Where would you normally use a timber handrail fitting?
As part of a handrail on a staircase when needing to change from the horizontal plane to a 37 degree incline/decline (most stairs are pitched at 37 degrees).
What is it made out of?
Plantation grown Radiata Pine that has been laminated and finger-jointed.
How do you fix it to the handrail?
Drill the end of the handrail (with a 16mm drill bit), then using a 16mm multi groove dowel, glue the rail to the pre-drilled bend. A small amount of sanding will be required to blend where they join.
How should you finish it?
As the handrail (to which the bend will be joined) has finger-jointing which is visible, we suggest that it should only be used for painting purposes.
If wanting to stain and lacquer, we suggest using the Vic Ash, American Oak or Mernati version of the same bend.
