A local builder here in Adelaide uses this design regularly in aged care faculties that they construct. It measures 120mm and 40mm thick and is made from select grade Victorian Ash. It is fixed onto the front of a 45 x 50mm backing piece, so that it sits off of the wall.

Sometime it is not possible to fix a stainless steel post to a horizontal surface. So if you only have a vertical surface to work with, the side mount post support is the perfect solution to this problem.
